OUR OPINION ABOUT PRESENTATIONS THIS WEEK

Hey,readers! What's going out?

This new post is about our impressions and opinion about the oral presentations that out mates did on Monday. As every week, the stars  of each group of the class has to make a presentation (that's why we made a poster) to show the rest of the classmates his/her group's work.
After seeing all the presentation we took some notes about what we like the most, what we didn't like at all and the things we should copy from other groups.

First we will tell you the things we liked the most, that were that some groups included (as an introduction) the history of the TPACK model. Another thing we like pretty much was that many groups used key words about TPACK, and that they also explained it to a better understanding for the listeners.
A very important thing, from our point of view, is the explanation and most of the groups made very clear ones (that's another positive point!). The posters made for helping the stars with their presentation were amazing.

On the other side, there were also thing that we didn't like a lot about the presentations.
For example, in some groups the star was reading what he/she had to say, or they just had learnt it by heart (so it sounded very strange and it was not adequate to the listeners they had). Another thing that you have to have in mind when you are the star is your voice tone (if you are speaking very low or very loud).

In general, all the stars did it very well and the things we didn't like at all are small details that can be corrected easily. So, can I ask you for a big clap for all the stars from our class? They really made a really good work and they were very brave (the were the first ones with the "Star" role and it has so much merit.

Congratulations!
P.S.: Just take this as a way of improving your presentations and not like a personal attack... Hope it would be useful for you!

See you,

ILLUSTRATING WORDS: QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Hi there!

We are Paz and Isa, the facilitators of the group.

Here, we are going to show you the answers of the questions about the practice we did in class last week. The practice was about illustrating words as you can see in this older post: Illustrating words

Hope you like it and probably, you will know more about our group.

-Have you had any problem illustrating the concepts?

To answered this question I have to say that there are two opinions about this.

On one hand, there are some group-mates that said that they hadn't got problems drawing the concepts. At first, they saw it abstract, but when they started to think and draw, they knew how to do it and they did it the best way they could.

On the other hand, other group-mates said that they had problems because, at the beginning, they saw it as an easier activity, but when they started to draw, they didn't know how to do it, or , if they finally did it, the rest of the group did't understand their draws.

Also, some students affirmed that this practice could be embarrassed, because we have to show our draws and maybe people don't feel comfortable doing it.

- How it is easier to know what is the concept, with a drawing? Or with a picture?

With this answered I think that we all are agree.

We all think that drawing is the easiest way to represent what you want, because you paint what you want to reflect, considering the context. You can also be more accurate. But if you don't draw well sometimes is better a picture, because it needs less instruction and practice ( or maybe your draw is impossible to understand).

-Messages in illustrations help to clarify the concept?

We all think that is a good idea to complete the images with some written information, in order to make a clear concept. But sometimes we think that is important to write key words that are more useful than a long paragraph.

- Why do you think the other group have had problems to guess the Word?

To answered this question, we have thought that the problems have come from three different ways:

• The first one is because the pictures were poor and didn't add enough details to know what they represented.
• The second one is because everyone hasn't got the same capacity to understand the pictures.
• The third one because there were many similar concepts and when you are drawing the concept “learning”, maybe others could understood “teaching”.

ILLUSTRATING WORDS

Good evening everyone!

How are you today? We're so exited because this is our first post on this new blog. We are going to show you all the activities we are going to make in our 'School organization and educational resources' course (#SOyER1314). We hope you enjoy our blog and that it could be useful for all of you (it's going to be very interesting, I promise).

So, the first activity we have made is called "Illustrating words" and, as its own name says, we have to illustrate five words from a list and then pass it to another group of classmates.
Here you have the draws we have done:

TEACHING

SUCCESS

WIDE AND DEEP

LEARNING

As you can see, we are not very good at drawing, but I think you all can guess what the pictures represents.
As we have said before, it has been our first activity in this course so, we will make it a bit better the next time.

Have a very nice week!
See you soon,

T8T Team

MORE INFO. ABOUT TPACK

Good Morning everyone!!

I am Raquel Ramón, the translator of the group and I would like to publish this post in which appears some interesting data that the group has found during this week about TPACK.

The TPACK structure is built by the idea of pedagogical content knowledge of Lee S. Shulman, who was an educational psychologist who contributes to the study of teaching (PCK). Later, Mishra and Koehler added the concept of technology (TPACK)

In the picture, I want to reflect the idea of TPACK which include the three main characteristics or features that teachers have to have, which are, CONTENT KNOWLEDGE, CORRECT METHODOLOGY AND ABILITY IN THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY.

Thank you!!

INTERESTING RESOURCES

Good morning world!!! :)
This week Laura Zuza and I (Sandra Pelegrín) are the journalists of our group. We, the hole group, are working hard to try to do an excellent work. We have used a lot of information to understand what we had to do. Here we publish two intersting videos about TPACK and MIND MAP.

We hope that they also help you and that you like the videos!

FACILITATORS

Good evening and hello everyone!

We are Paz Pascual and Isa Torralba, the facilitators of the group this week. As we are 8 team members in the group, we share the role..

First of all, we have to say that this role isn't easy because you have to coordinate and organized the group, apart of revised the blog, and do so many things.

At the beginning, we didn't know how to carry out the work and we were lost. The dynamic of this course is totally different from those we have experimented until now. The only person of the group that knows how to carry out a blog (more or less) was Paz, but she didn’t know it very well (that’s why we decided to start this first week with two facilitators, in order to make a really good blog…or at list, try to get it). After this decision, we made a raffle in order to distribute the rest of the roles.

The next thing we decided to do, now as the facilitators of the group, was to start with the poster about TPACK. We did brain storm with the whole group, for decide how we will do the poster, look for information and planning its structure. We also made another brainstorm to search for the group name.
When we had all this organized, we decided to make the blog in order to allow all our group mates publishing all that they want (of course, about something related to the topic).

We haven’t got so many problems during the process of doing the poster because we were working together. Maybe we were stressed and we had different points of view, but we knew how to work like a group, sharing our ideas, contrasting them with our mates’ ones and adapting to others’ proposals.

The "big problem" was that we didn't understand how to make the activity. We started to do it and just before finishing it, we realized that we were making it wrong. We felt frustrated because most of our week's work wasn't useful. We started to make it again (now with a clearer idea of how to make the work and, also, about TPACK concept). We couldn't finished it in class, so our Star had to end it at home pasting the elements of the poster.

Another responsibility of the facilitators was to correct all the posts that our partners had published on the blog, but it was difficult because they are great in english and sometimes they knew more than us (we have to admit it, even it is little embarrassing for us).

We have done our role the best we could, and the results are very good (despite of being the first week and being a bit lost). Now is the turn of our mates to continue doing our work as facilitator. We are sure they will do it very well (even better than us!)

We think everybody is happy with our work, and we think it is because we haven’t been so bad bosses!

See you next week as Journalists! ;)

Paz and Isa.

TRANSLATOR

Hello again!

This is my work of this week because I am the translator of the group RAQUEL RAMÓN and I had to collect the 5 most important terms that the group has learnt during the week. So, I hope you like it

PEDAGOGY: Pedagogy is a set of processes and methods by which the teacher make easier to the students the learning of the specific subject. Pedagogy will be different in each context. This requires the understanding and development of students. maybe, personally,I can say that is one of the most important competence that a teacher could have got.

TECHNOLOGY: Currently is an essential tool to carry out an effective learning. Technology should be used by teachers to explain contents in an audiovisual way (movies, videos and so on) or using computers, iPads, and other electronic systems. With this use, it will be facilitated the pedagogical work.

CONTENT: Essential information that teacher must to know in order to transmit and explain to students through the understanding of central concepts, facts, theories and procedures of the subject.

CONTEXT : It is a set of circumstances applied in each case depending of technology, content and pedagogy that can be used in any situation ( type of school, type of students and type of subject and so on)

TPACK: Is a model created by Mishra and Koehel (TECHNOLOGICAL, PEDAGOGICAL AND CONTENT KNOWLEDGE) that include the knowledge of technology (use of technology systems), the knowledge of content (the subject) and the knowledge of the pedagogy (how the teach the content to the students, adapting the content to better understanding of it by students). This concept was widely unknown by us, but thanks to this work, we have known a new important concept to carry out  our profession in the future.

I have been really happy doing this role and the first week with TPACK work has been completed successfully. I think that TPACK is a useful tool to create a good environmental in a class, becoming the methodology of the class and the learning process a success not only with the good interest of the students but also the emotion of the teacher to do a magnific class working in his/ her profesion like a part of his live. This is a TEACHER; a person who lives everyday with the pupils and share experiences along with them.

Thank you for your time. See you next week with other unknown and interesting role!!

THE JOURNALISTS

As journalists, now we are going to publish the way we have organized our everyday job during this week, thanks to the facilitators role, which have helped us a lot.

1st day (Monday 3rd February):
At the beginning we were a bit lost, because this methodology is a new way of working for us. First of all, we looked for a lot of information to understand well what we had to do. Once understood the task, we delivered the roles, and organized the work.

2nd day (Tuesday 4th February):
We made a draft of our future work and then it was done a list of the materials we needed. Later, we went to buy them and started to work.

3rd day (Wednesday 5th February):
As we didn’t have lesson in the first two hours, and we didn’t have enough time to work in class, and we lost the first day organizing ourselves, because this way of working is new for us, we used these two hours to continue with the task. We started making the poster for the presentation and the other parts of the activity.

4th day (Thursday 6th February):
We finished the poster and the whole task and left everything ready for the presentation.

5th day (Monday 10th February):
Today it has been the greatest day. The star has done the 5 minutes presentation of the task about TPACK. We have also seen the other teams presentations; we leave here a picture of their posters.

As interesting blogs which explain TPACK, we have commented on some of them, here we leave the links and our comments.

We even received some answers!!!

Moreover, we commented on a English Primary teacher blog, who also commented on our blog. Her blog is a practical example of TPACK that we, as bilingual future teachers, will use as a reference for our job.

Apart from commenting in some blogs, we have also commented in the GiveMe7 blog (http://giveme7blog.blogspot.com.es/) because we have been exploring some other blogs of our peers, with the objective of improve ours, and we wanted to congratulate them, because it has been the best blog we have seen due to it is very organized and visual.

See you soon!

SURVEYS ABOUT TPACK

Good evening followers of T8T team! :P

Here we are again the journalists, with the resoults of a survey we have made during this week.

For us, it has been a very interesting activity, asking to different types of teachers for answering to our survey: primary, high school and university teachers.

In the survey, we first of all explained what TPACK model is, and after that, we asked about the type of teacher, the frequency they use technology to transmit the contents, if they knew the model before, and the advantages and disadvantages they think it has.

Example of survey

Having a look at the results, we have to say that none of them knew about the existence of this method, except from a university teacher, whose subject is related to 'School organization and educational resources'.

CURATOR FARMER

Hi everyone!
This week I'm the Curator Farmer

During this week  we have used some ideas and information
from differents  information resources  to carry  out  our activities.

For this work  I have organized all the resources that the group has used in our Pearl Tree.

About my experience been the Curator Farmer I can say that at first when we divided all the roles and I saw that  I was going to be the curator farmer, I thought :  What? What is this? What I have to do?

But then rapidly all the group started to work and for the next day I definitly knew all that  I had to do. And that day after been in class, working in the Tpack poster, I could start my work.

At first it can be a little difficult because you have to been watching, asking and taking notes about  all references that the group  have used  and also you have to organize yourself to organizing all the information that you receive, which at first it can be so much but not much important.
At the same time on doing this, I discovered what  was  a Pearl Tree,  an useful ''social library'' where I have organized all the references which we have been working with.

So I can say that  it has been a good experience, I liked my first role and I think that all this new information has been so useful in addiction,I think that it is something that I will use in the near future.

Thanks so much

STAR

Hello everyone!

I'm Alba Ramsay and this week my task has consisted of setting out our week's work, I was the star and I want to tell you about my experience and how I felt.

Firstly, when I knew I was going to be the one that introduced and explained the content of the first week, I was quite worried and nervous, of course, because it was the first week and the first time we have worked this way, nevertheless, something inside told me that everything was going to be okay.

Secondly, the big worry for our team was to focus on a correct explanation of the TPACK. This week has been quite tough, lots of work had to be done, there were many things to understand, and constantly fighting against time. As the work was getting done, we better understood the goal of this weeks task and my fears started to disappear. I would especially like to emphasise the stress and our panic on the weekend before the presentation, especially mine I must admit, and thinking that we were not going to have it finished on time was really killing me. However, everything was finally indeed prepared and ready for my exposition on Monday.

Monday arrived, I could feel the butterflies in my stomach as I do before every presentation. Once the lesson started I just wanted to get it out, but our teacher surprised me when she explained how the presentation was going to be oriented. I had to present it 10 different times, to 10 different groups, at first I panicked, so my first presentation was quite poor, I was not happy at all, but the 2nd and the 3rd were better and my confidence grew each time I repeated it. However, notwithstanding the improvement, by the tenth time I was really looking forward to the end, to say my last phrase: "do you have any questions?"

Despite all the nerves, stress and the pressure, my final conclusion is positive, indeed I am sure I would not say no to repeating it. My overall assessment is a positive result. It is a very good experience to help you gain confidence, to leave behind your fears and, of course to have a good amount of time to practice your English. I also want to highlight that at first I didn't know how well the functionality of this subject would work, but after this stressful first week I'm pretty happy to work this way in the future.

So that's all for this week, see you next week with other new experiences to tell and to show.

Alba xxx

STAR

Here we publish some parts of the excellent presentation done by the star of the week: Alba Ramsay! :D
We would like to congratulate her because exposing the first one in a new subject, with a totally different way of working and methodology... has much merit!

CONGRATULATIONS ALBA!!
