THE ANALYSTS

Good afternoon! We are the analysts of the previous week, Sanda and Laura.

Last week it wasn't a current week, it was a special week, the most intensive of the whole year, due to we did the LOE-LOMCE game. All the students were very excited because the previous week all groups had been working hard choosing the questions and comparing both laws, preparing the questions...

The game was a difficult task for all stars, because even though the star always has the responsability of showing the whole group work, this week it has been very complicated to show it, because behind the activity it was a desired reinforcement for the School and Organization subject.

We would like to congratulate all the stars of that week, because they have done a great job and they all did it very good in the game. We are very proud that with this high level we have in class, our stars have been the ones who got the prize.

Thanks to our wonderful stars, all the members of the T8T group has been reinforced with a 9.5 in one of the questions of the final exam.

The best things of this week has been that all the members of the group has been linked. We have been supporting a lot our stars in the game, and we have suffered even more than them. It has been the activity which has motivated us the most in the course, even though we were very nervous.

The worst thing has been the role of the stars. We all think that in a future the game should be planned different, so that not just 2 members of each group have to play, because the responsability is very hard. It would be better if the whole group is able to participate and to compare the answers between them.

The best moment of the activity was when we win the game, because after the nerves we suffered, we won the game, and the whole group was very implicated in the game the two previous weeks. It wasn't an easy task because the rest of the groups had a high level too.

The worst moments were during the game, when we were near to a snake or when our parners were near us or near a ladder, because they could reach us, and we wanted to win. Also, when it was our team turn, we were all the time worried about their answer, if it was correct or not.

With this activity we have learnt that as future teachers, when we have to teach a hard unit, it is easier to motivate the students with a creative activity or with reinforcements. With this we get better results from the students, and we are able to see how a such a borring topic become exciting and funny for the students.

As a group, we would have to conserve the feeling of unification, and try to continue with a positive attitude, due to we just have 2 more weeks together as a group.

This LOE-LOMCE content is related to other subjects such as "Acción tutorial", where we are designing some children activities, other ways of learning for the students... and we think that all the activities that we are carring out with Linda in this subject have gave us a lot of ideas for the other subjects tasks.
Moreover, as future teachers, it is very important to know well the laws of the educational system

Besides, it is a currently topic, which is being discussed in the media every day, and that directly affect us as current students but also as future teachers.

As a conclusion, we have to say that we have enjoyed being the analysts this week. The work of this week has been very positive, there isn't any negative aspect to say. We would have liked that all the weeks had been like this one.

See you soon.

THE ANALYST

Analysing the third and fourth steps of the game: The creation of questions and its group evaluation.

By: Ana Mª Sánchez Clares.

Let´s divide the analysis in three parts: the one related to the activity, the group functioning and the social implications of the issues.

Considering that studying an educational law is always a harsh task, it could be said that the way of focusing the activity has added some creativity and have forced us to use the superior thinking skills. Creating questions has helped us to focus on the more important issues the law is presenting and thinking on practical situations has been an effective way of understanding the scope of the law changes. On the other hand, it could be said that the worst part of this task has been the ignorance about the criteria that would be used for examining and grading the questions: if the whole class would had known what the criteria were, the quality of the questions had been superior. According to this, the lack of time for examining the whole topic questions was stressful and could have made that the evaluations were no as fair as they could have been. To sum up, let´s say that we value the type of activity positively: tasks that entail a process of elaboration are more time-consuming and require a bigger cognitive effort, but are slower to forget and the learning achievement they provide is usually a better quality one.

In relation to the group work, there have been quite positive moments, but some annoying and disappointing ones as well, and believe me, it is not easy neither to analyse nor to express it. In this case I have to start by the negative points: from the division of the task (that was not understood by half of the group, but in any case was not fair) passing through the content used by most of the group members to make the first set of questions (not the LOMCE, but the topics based on the LOE) and finishing by the delay in presenting the questions to the rest of the group members. On the positive side it has to be considered that, after the first partial failure when creating the first set of questions, we had a group session on Tuesday where we worked as a group analysing the questions, examining the law, rewriting bad questions, making other more simple and, actually, I had to point that day as the best one for being the most "learning generator" one and because of the attitude of openness to change and the will of improvement; unfortunately the will is fickle and we had to suffer again a second delay in the improved set of questions, with all their associated problems for revising language on time and for printing the final work. That relapse can be marked as the worst part, together with the unfair way of dividing the task, and that definitely has to be improved: a group cannot afford repeating the same mistakes, because it undermines confidence and has to keep some equilibrium in the division of work fristly because it´s fair and, secondly, to avoid resentments and for keeping a good atmosphere. Does it mean that the balance tip on the negative? Well, to be fair, not all the members did it badly, and some of them try hard to improve on time, so let´s say that the result is a bittersweet experience.

And what about the educational relations and the implications of the contents we have been working on? Let´s start with the more simple advantage of knowing the law: next year, when we have our teaching-training, we will have a better understanding of the functioning of the school. The second advantage is that having analysed the law changes managing the main sources make us a little less dependent on political manipulation, which is an annoying timeless social issue, but quite a hot issue now the European polls are coming. Finally I would like to reflect on the taxonomy of Bloom and its revisions in relation to the task given: it would have been so different to have had to read the law and learnt it by articles or titles or just stopping in the earlier step of our game when creating the C-maps... This way of structuring the course is a prove of that creativeness and other superior thinking skills can be developed even in relation to arid topics as a law.

ANALYST

Hello readers!

I'm Raquel Ramón. This week I perform as the analyst of my group and my function is to analyse all the members of the group, the work and evaluate the group in general. So, let's start.
We had to read 2 topics about the activity, organization and administration of the schools and so on.
We had to read the topic number 2 and 5. Topic 2 was about the organization of the schools in Primary Education and the topic 5 about the administration of educational institutions. The last was a bit difficult but it was Ok, we started to work on them. We had to compare the previous law LOE with the current one LOMCE.
The facilitators split in two groups the big group in 4 persons per group and work in each topic and then meet all together to create the maps.

Coming back the role of Analyst.. I have to say that I was quite confusing for doing this role, because it is the first time that I do this role and I didn't know what will I start with ( evaluating the group, respond to the questions etc)..

I have to say that the best part of the activity is....

to make the things in a different way. I mean, the idea of doing a conceptual map is a good way to improve our knowledge because we have to make a map where it appears the main concepts and important things of each topic. So, it can be very useful for our future as teachers. We can motivate children to learn by this way. I know exactly that it is useful because I am a visual learner. I learn in a easier way by organized and structured contents by schemes, conceptual maps. After seeing the structured and clear content, I can develop and explain the rest of the content or specific and less important content that doesn't appear in the main concepts. So, it's a excellent tool to improve and make easy the learning process not only ours but also your pupils ones.

Maybe, the worst part of the activity is...

to work with the laws. I think that it's important to know the laws and about the educational System these is part of our life. We are involved in the world and everything about it affects us not only as students like right now but also as teachers in a school. Why, it's important to know the laws? I think that we have to know to manage the class and pupils and everything is involved according to the legislation, the current law LOMCE and see with the previous one, LOE what are the progress and the improvement between them and what are the changes and advantages of this. But also, I think that reading the laws and different parts of them are very boring. Maybe it could be more effective if we learn the laws and characteristics is a practical way, with real examples of this, different context and different situations that we could have with the necessity of facing them up...

According to my class- mates, the best moment of the week is ....

in general all days, because in this week I can't stand out a specific or special day or moment. We have worked as hard as possible, according with the time. Maybe is other negative aspect. We cannot work as we wish because we don't get much time for doing the activities. But, lately, I see that all the members of the group are working so hard, but we have to improve, because I think that all of us want to get a good grade and work together for this. According to the "friendship" it seems that we all are working in a more reliable way, I mean, we have some problems every week, but we are used to work in a group. So, this could strengthen the quality of the group.

The worse moment of the group could be.....

the moment when we had to decide how to do the maps. As facilitators split the group in two groups of 4, one group did the work before the other one and we saw their conceptual map and we thought that they could improve it and make it clearer and with more quality. So, in this moment, there were some problems and argues in the conception of a conceptual map, links, more or less text etc. But, finally we sort out the problems and they change some things that could be clearer in other way. Also, we used Inspiration 9 program because personally, we were looking into different programs to make the map and Inspiration 9 was the best and the most creative program for us, because it give us more flexibility and more styles to do it.

According to the learning...

I have to say that we have learnt some important things about the current law. We were comparing the two laws and we saw that there are almost no differences between both. We found that the current specified and give more details of things that also are in the other law. Why does the current law give more details? I think so because nowadays, the laws change with politics and government ideas and every time that a politic party is repealed; the new law is coming and appear. But, also, most of them have been complemented in some aspects as we saw in education aspect. It supposes that they are introducing to improve the rights of the society to advance and create a better world. This affect us, above all, in terms of education and for it, the current Law specified more, for example, in terms of the executive equip' functions and the functions of the teachers etc...

According to the group T8T, we have to conserve....

the interactive meetings of all members. For doing this week my role, they have been helping me to share their points of views about the subject; exactly the activity and they have been very useful to me to understand better everything about this project. Also, facilitator have a good idea to split the groups because occasionally, we need to be in smaller groups to share the ideas of all the members, to be more relaxed and work better, and when a part of the group agree in every aspect, share it with the other part of the group. It's easier, I think. Also, we are going to meet the next week to talk about all the problems in order to can improve as group. Working in group is the most powerful tools that we can do to learn through interactions and share different ideas and views and enrich yourself from the originality of other and learn from them.I''m going to put some comments from my class mates at the end of the post =)

What we have to improve is....

the confidence in ourselves and between class mates. Sometimes, a class mate said.. hey! You have to improve the post because it's not clear and incomplete because you have to put this and this and this. And, you argue with him or her because you don't see the things as other do, and you think that he or she is disturbing me and that's all. But, maybe we have to open our minds and analyse the situation, look up the information about this y said.. Oh wait! I think that you could be all right... I'm going to change and see what can I improve... This would be the idea. Work together as one.

The question of how this content is related to other contents in the course and in the degree is interesting...

In our degree, we must fit the law in each moment. If the law has the aim of avoiding the school failure in our country, this collects different educational methods that we learn in order to get in the best way the efficient learning of the students.
For instance, my degree is Bilingual, and one of the examples to respond the current educational needs as linguistic inversion is.

On the other hand, we are studying to get the required competences to be a good professional in our job as teachers and as citizens. This activity that we have looked into about the Education Spanish System takes part in the School Organization subject. This therefore is a one of the contents that we have to learn to the future.
So, this takes part in TPACK in the CONTENT, because TPACK collect the three main competences that a good teacher has to acquire. So, the content, pedagogy and technologies had to be learnt by teacher to the future.

The current law try to adapt their judgments to the needs that society requires in each moment, by considering the main principles equity and equality.
So, there are a relation between the law and the society because the development of the law regulates participation among school, family and students reflected in the news everyday.

So, as I said before, I leave you some of comments that I have collected from my class mates about the activity of this week. This comments have helped me to have the ideas clearer.

What do you think about the activity?

All the group agree we have not done the work as we wanted, because we haven't got much time to do it better. So we are not satisfied with our work at all. We could have done better.

Also, some of the members as Laura and Isa have told me that despite being the laws a bit boring, this are the basic content that we have to know, but it would be more interesting in a practical way. I mean, maybe we'll acquire the content in a effective way with examples of the real life, we won't remember the topics, of course, but if we see the laws in other perspective, giving real  situation that we can find in our school.

Other people like Paz and the both Ana ( Ana Sánchez and Ana Ruíz) say that reading the laws and comparing them have the aim of knowing deeply our educational system that affect to our environment in the school, for example, and creating a conceptual maps could be a good way to learn from our class mates. Now, we have a bit of knowledge about how are structured the schools, the administration, the main aims of the law etc...

Alba, for example, says that this is a hard going activity, with lot of content and maybe a bit confusing because we have never study this and it's other kind of content, a bit confused as well.

And why have we to learn and know the Laws and so on?

Because, we are in a degree to be in a future teachers or something related with the education. So, here, we are developing different useful things to improve our skills and have the capacity to get the required competences. So, learn and know who move us into the legislation and so on plays an important role in the characterictis of a teacher.

Thank you so much for reading my post!

I hope you enjoy!!

If you have any question, tell me whenever you want! :P

See you soon!=)=)

Hello again, I’m Ana Ruiz and this week my role is Analyst.

About the role, I can say that it is more difficult that it seems.

The best part of the activity I think was to do our video, specially, when we finished  the video, because all of us were worried about using Moovly. At first nobody knew how to use this new tool, and the first day when we have to explore it, we were thinking that we didn’t have time enough to finish it on time. For that reason, doing the video was the best part of the activity.

About the best moment it  was Monday  in class, when we have to show our videos. Firstly, because we were excited and unexpected to know if we have done a proper video.  And when we did a performance such as ‘’Eurovision’’ and it was very funny.
creativecommons.org

And As I said before, we were so worried about using  the new tool , but  I think that we were more worried before, when we didn’t know exactly what we have to include in our video so, I think that the worse of the activity was at first when we didn’t know what our video would be and what should we include in it.

The worse moment was when we had to prepare the elements that we think we should include in the video. Because there are a lot information, we have learnt a lot and we had show all that we have learnt in the video.

Every day we learnt something, and during this week we have learnt, first of all, to use the new tool, Moovly. Also we have learnt, using through this  useful tool, to do a synthetis of all knowledge that we have learnt during this period.

creativecommons.org
I think the motivation, I don’t know why… but this week all of us were so motivate and we want to make a good good work, more than other weeks. Also collaboration, this week  we have worked such a real team.

We should improve our work in group, I mean, we work well , by ourselves but when we work together is  more difficult because  we don’t express ourselves and I think we should say what we think in order to reach an agreement. But, in spite of all, I can say that we have improved. Now we know each other and we can organize and do things easily than before.

I think that, firstly, to know how synthesize a lot of information is what we should do in all our others subjects because it means that you know what you are studying.
Then, I think that the content that we have compiled is clear example of what Tpack is. We have integrated: Technology, Pedagogy and Content Knowledge , such as we have done in this subject since we started with the first task.

ANALYST

Hello I’m Alba Ramsay, the analyst. Looking carefully at everything is one of the most important tasks of this role. This week has been very entertaining, having to interact all together trying to reach the target of this week’s work.

Therefore, as I’ve said before the best part of this week’s task was the way we’ve worked as a group, the different way of working having to perform, to record and to find the most creative part of each one of us. I must admit that this week we have teamed even more, and that is the most important part because due to this, the work improves and we work better.

On the other hand, the worst part of this week when we had a mishap, when all our work was recorded, we missed it, so we had to start all over again. Nonetheless, this only stressed us a bit, but we knew how to cope with it and get everything to show it on class.

For sure, the best moment of the week working as a group was recording our adverts, we enjoyed as if we were kids, laughing, repeating it, and enjoying our project. It has been the best way of connecting all of us, getting the group more compact.

But for instance, the worst one was when we had everything recorded and we had to do it all over again. We felt as if we wasted our time, but after doing the second time, it wasn’t that bad; because of having it already done and memorized it took us much less time than expected.

From this week we’ve learnt how to show in a short time our thoughts, from a brainstorming of each member of the group ended up being a great idea. Apart from that, we’ve learnt how to use contents properly, and of course, that text books are not the best option to use as a teacher.

From this week I would like to conserve the cheerful spirit the T8T had, the way we solve problems, and how we face them.  And especially the unification the group has had this week, the way we’ve learnt from each other.

For next week, from my point of view what we need to improve is communication, sometimes we don’t know how to illustrate our ideas, or maybe prefer not say what they think. But from my perspective, for a group to work well needs to show their thoughts, agreements and disagreements as well.

In conclusion, I would like to highlight that cooperating with and as a unified group is the key to success. I’m sure we have to keep on working on this to improve but in my opinion we are having a good start.

See you next week.

ANALYSTS

Good afternoon, readers!

We’re T8T Team’s analysts this week (Paz and Isa). For us, this is one of the most complicated roles because we have to express all the feelings of the group members and also to evaluate them (which is not very nice).

This week, the organization has been better than other weeks because we have finished the work on time. We think it is because now we know each other better than at the beginning, so we know the weakness and strengths of each one of us. Another reason is that we have divided the work better (the facilitator will explain it better to you).

For us, the best part of the activity has been all the activity itself, I mean, finishing it on time and the fact that we didn’t had many problems (we share the same point of view about the topic).

The other way round, the worst part was when we discovered that other group had chosen the same topic as us. We discovered it when we had just finished our work, so we started again to look for another topic and to search information about that new one. We felt badly because we were so exited with our finished work and the idea of repeating it was frightened. But we were so brave and we did it. (;

But the worst moment of the week was to realized (the day of the presentation) that our work was wrong. We had a wrong idea of an oral presentation, fortunately our teacher showed us how to make a good presentation. We did it again.

But the best moment was when we were working all together, because we understood each other.

What we have learnt all along this week is that we have to advise (when we have to choose a topic) before finishing the work in order not to use the same topic as another group. But the most important thing we have learnt is how to make a good oral presentation (even we have learnt it by the hard way), now we’re ready to make really good oral presentations.

As a group, we have to conserve the good ways of working we have developed during this three weeks (improving it) and also the fact that we have respected other group members’ ideas, because this is the best thing we have as a group.

On the other hand, what we wouldn’t conserve for the next weeks is to let someone to finished the work at home because we’re a group and we have to do it together.

The content we have worked at is very useful, not only for our degree or future job (we’ll have to use it so many times during both) but also for everyone who wants to make a good oral presentation, not just students that have to expose their class works but also for our finally degree task or presentations at our jobs.

As a conclusion, we have to say that the group has worked so hard. We have lived so many feelings in a very short time due to all the things that had happened to us, but this has made us improve as team members and our learning.

See you soon,
Paz and Isa.

THE ANALYSTS

Good afternoon!

We are Sandra and Laura, the analysts for this week. We have been working on cartographic projections, a very interesting topic about which we didn't have much information before we started, and now we are going to answer several questions about the task done by the group this week.

a. What was the best part of the activity?
The best part and even the most interesting has been the media search, because it was the funniest and easiest, even though we had to think a lot about it. That is because we love photography and we think that it is an original activity.

b. What was the worst?
The worst part of this task has been the search for the maps, because the images have caused us a lot of problems, due to the fact that they didn’t fit well with the poster we wanted to show. It happened due to it is not easy to find a good picture where we can see well the distortion with the same scale.

c. What was the best moment of the week in the work of the group?
The hour we spent in class on Thursday, because the whole group was together, and it was easier to work. The rest of the week we had to work at home or in small groups, because we are 8, too much people for a group, and it was imposible for us to meet all together.

d. What was the worst?
The worst part of this week was that we had to meet for three more days, because we didn’t have enough time to finish our task for the presentation on Monday. Moreover, it was a very difficult task to choose the countries, and all the ideas we wanted to present.

e. What have you learnt?
During this week, we have learnt about the three projection models, which we didn’t know about before, and that the maps that we have studied during our young lives were not the correct ones, because they were distorted, not exact representations. We have also learnt as future teachers, the characteristics of each projection and it will help us in a near future to choose the best projection from our point of view to show and to teach to our students.

f. What do you need to conserve -as a group- for the next weeks?
The collaboration and implication in the task of all the members of the group, searching for information even though we had to do it many times, the same information applied to different countries and different treasure hunts.

g. What do you need to improve –as a group- for the next weeks?
The organization, because this week we have had some problems, because each one of us wanted to choose a different country according to their own opinion. Those problems came because everybody tries to do their task the best they can from their point of view, and we have to learn how to accept their parts and their work, because it is a groupal work where 8 people are taking part.

h. How is this content related to other contents in the course and in your degree?
In our degree, it is important to have a good level of English, both writing and speaking; and also to have a general knowledge of culture. In addition, it has been very useful for us to revise and refresh our knowledge about geography, which we had almost forgotten.

i. Is there any evident social connection of this content (news, politics, etc.)?

There are some countries which are not connected to the countries in the rest of the world; that is due to the fact that they are not developed enough or they do not have the media to achieve it. Moreover, it may also be because of the way the government acts, which often results in the population being repressed. That is the reason why, when they see some pictures or videos of a different place from theirs, they think that it is a distortion of their reality, because they have no information about other lifestyles or cultures in general.
With this task, we have to think about the things that we will teach in the future to our pupils, and we should choose the best resources and materials, due to we are the ones who have to teach in a non distort way, because we will influence in the children's vision and thoughts of the world reality.

THE ANALYST

Hello T8T, hello to everyone who will read our blog!

This is Ana Sánchez, the Analyst during T8T first week, and this one is my first entry in the blog and it’s very exciting!  I have waited until the end to post it and I hope you’re not too worried about the analyst’s mission…

Evaluation is something that sounds exam-like, but this is not the point of my job. At least I haven´t approach my task in this way!

This week I have been thinking a lot of my role, it seems to be not the coolest one. I have had to manage to assess our week work together and to evaluate team members, including myself.

Aiming high is something we must do, I would like our job to be a quality one (and so do my team mates). But this is something that cannot be done without reflecting on things that aren’t working so far or without being aware of our virtues or strengths, in order to be able to reinforce these ones and to change those other ones.  To clarify all these points and to know what to take into consideration I have had a look to some pages about team work which links can be found in our beautiful GroupTree, and that belong to the universities of Carnegie Mellon, Waterloo and Kent (thanks for such useful materials!). The resources include some questionnaires for the self and teamwork assessment that have been past to the different members of the group.

After analyzing the results of the questionnaires, I can say that, in general, it´s been hard to reflect on our own strengths and it seems to me that we are a little bit scared of thinking of our weaknesses. In addition to this, it is hard to appropriately share this kind of knowledge about ourselves and about our team members. Something else that is important is that we don´t know each other as much, lots of us haven´t been working together before, and it´s only our first week as T8T members! I hope that we can get to know each other and we can take advantage of the great and different qualities we all have!

We all agree that we have to improve our teamwork organization, even though our facilitators did their job as they had to, they faced the more difficult bit of a group development: the beginnings! It was difficult to arrange the task because there were some general misunderstandings about the aim of the activity and in some bits our approach was wrong and we had to restart the task.  These moments were the worst ones for the group: the confusion about the instructions given by the different teachers in addition to our lack of training in the new working methods, ignorance about the content (TPACK framework), and the difficulty of having to apply some new technological software (I have to say that this blog it´s still a little bit scary for me, I´m afraid…). But all this has given us some kind of personal experience on the difficulties of applying TPACK model. We now think that, in some way, we have been experiencing it (of course, in a low level, but somehow we feel as we have been “living the TPACK model”). And that´s related to the best part of the task: to share what we had understood (after finishing the first frightening presentation) and to realize about the different ways of interpreting it and of performing it!  We really enjoyed the experience.

After this first week we have realized that we must work harder, that we have to make sure that we have understood the task and that we have to start contributing to it as soon as it is explain to us.  Because there are 8 of us, it´s difficult to work together, listen to each other and take into account each other opinions, but we have to continue what we have started, this kind of group brainstorming. I think that everyone was quite available for helping with the task, some members more than others because it was their personal strength; it´s something positive that we have to reinforce. On the other hand, we have to improve the balance between to carry with the team task, at the same time that we develop our personal one, our team roles! But it´s so difficult to be equitable when delivering (or assuming) the jobs, when we don´t really know how much time every task can takes us!

As students of Primary Education Teaching, we consider that the reflection on the TPACK model is going to make us appreciate a little bit more hard content subjects and more pedagogical ones, coupled with that it reminds us how useful technologies can be for improving understanding and for communicating the knowledge. We have been reflecting on all the different subjects we had studied so far, and even if any of them can be presented as a balance between the three core domains of the TPACK model, them all are contributing to built a complete knowledge in our formation as teachers. Moreover, luckily for us, some subjects even try to help us to integrate these three core domains, and we are experiencing that it is NOT that easy. What do you prefer, I ask myself, to be a cool teacher using lots of new resources, making lessons fun and connected to your student´s daily life… or being a teacher who loves its subject, who has a comprehensive knowledge of it and try to make it accessible to students, even if it is not so keen on new technologies? And why do I have to choose? – can someone ask itself. Well, it is not that you have to, I rather prefer to have all the qualities, but to master just a subject content requires such a huge compromise, that I cannot avoid considering it; at the same time that I hope we all find the way to strike a balance!

As a final reflection, we think that the TPACK model can be connected with the emergence to the competences in the curriculum, the realization of that it is necessary to step further in the teaching-and-learning process: the teaching of the different contents, procedures, skills and attitudes must be integrated somehow considering the different context where the teaching-learning process develops.
We could continue reflecting on these themes, but we will wait until we enrich our knowledge! We ask for forgiveness for the mistakes we have made, specially the related to the content! And thanks for reading us!
